Principal Update Dec. 11-15 | Holiday Hampers, School Development Plan, Fees Reporting, Message from School Council
Dear Simon Fraser Families,
Friday’s professional learning time was focused on assessment and reporting. The learning and planning focused on the different instructional strategies to include observations and conversations. Then staff took time to collaboratively review the current evidence they have of student learning to ensure that each student has had the opportunity to demonstrate in multiple ways.
Here are a few updates and reminders for the week ahead:
- December 13 – Band Concert
- December 13 - Fun Lunch Place - Orders by Friday Midnight
- December 14 – School Dance
Casino Update
All positions are now full for the Casino. Thank you to all families that have signed up to support!
Holiday Hamper
This year we will be collecting cash and gift cards for our Simon Fraser families who may need a little extra love this holiday season. The prize for the class that collects the most will be a dodgeball game v’s the staff. Gift cards from Walmart, Superstore, FreshCo and Amazon are welcome as well as any cash donations. Every loonie counts, so please help your child’s class win the challenge.
Last day for collecting donations will be Friday December 15, so please send your gift in with your child as soon as possible. Thank you in advance for your kindness.
Simon Fraser Fees Reporting 22-23 and School Development Plan 2023-24
The Simon Fraser School Improvement Results Report 2022-23 and the School Development Plan for 2023-24 is posted on the school website. These two documents are now amalgamated into one to support school communities to see both the impact of our previous work and the continuity of our planning and professional learning to support student achievement, engagement, and wellbeing, I have included the complete document below. A Message from your School Council
The school council is currently in the early planning stages of coordinating a parent educational opportunity focused on online safety and more specifically, how to talk to your children about their online presence and interactions. We are looking for a speaker/educator who has expertise in this area and would be willing to come to our school to speak to parents (note: this is not a request for a volunteer- this person would be paid for their time). While we are confident, we can find a speaker, we wanted to first ask if we have any parents in our school community who have direct expertise and experience (e.g. conducting educational speaking engagements specific to online etiquette and safety) who would like to be considered for this opportunity. If this sounds like you and you are interested in sharing your expertise, please contact our principal Laureen Lailey
Have a wonderful weekend with your children. We look forward to welcoming your children back for a full week of learning.
Laureen
