Attendance Line: 403-777-7290 Press 1

Parents/Guardians are required to inform the office if their child is going to be absent or late. To report an absence, please call 403-777-7290 and press 1. The line is available 24/7 and is checked periodically throughout the day. Please state the name of your child, SPELLING the last name, their homeroom and the reason for the absence, and whether the absence will be for the whole day or a portion of the day. Please also use this line for informing us of early pickups or lates for your student. We need permission from the parent/guardian on file for all students if they are being picked up earlier than dismissal time. Taking the time to let us know that your child will be absent before school starts helps us to complete attendance accurately. Emails to teachers or to the general mailbox do not always reach the office in time to do accurate attendance and may result in you receiving a phone call or email advising that your child is absent

Lates for School

Plan to arrive at school with sufficient time to prepare for the AM or PM and proceed to class. If you arrive after the late bell, check in at the office for a late slip to admit you to class.

Lates for Class

Two minutes are provided for movement from class to class. In order for classes to start on time, and to avoid congestion in the hallways, you are to report directly to your next class. Please do not return to lockers, or go to the washroom at this time. If you do have to make a “stop”, check in with your next class teacher, and obtain permission to leave. Lates between classes are to come to the office for a late slip.

Absences

Regular attendance is essential for success in school, and we would encourage you, where possible, to make appointments outside of school hours.

When a student is absent we would ask for a email or phone call from a Parent/Guardian each day the student is absent. Please call the attendance line at 403-777-7290, Press 1 and record your students first name, last name, homeroom and the reason for the absence. This line is checked periodically throughout the day. You can also check your myCBE account as any lates and absences are recorded automatically via the system.

Extended Absences

In the case of prolonged illness, we would appreciate phone or email contact as soon as possible. It is the student's responsibility to be sure that he/she checks with teachers prior to departure re: assignments or tests, and again upon return. Please take advantage of Google Classroom.

For any vacations over a week, a Extended Absence Form is required to be signed and returned to the office from the Parent/Guardian.

Missed Classwork

Please rely on Google Classroom for up to date classwork information and any assignments that are due. All students and guardians are responsible for completing any missed assignments while away or absent from school. Please email your child's homeroom teacher for any additional information.

Early Checkout

If, for any reason, a student must check out early, a Parent phone call must be made in advance to the Office. The student must check out through the Office. At no time should a student leave the building without following these procedures.

Should a student need to take a bus different than their assigned bus, an email or phone call to the office is required 24 hours in advance giving us ample time to create the letter.

Attendance Homeroom & Connect

Attendance is taken for every period, and recorded in the myCBE parent/guardian portal. If your child is not in attendance or in the classroom, they will be marked Absent. They will be required to come to the office for a late slip.

Attendance Expectations at the CBE

Regular and punctual attendance is foundational to student learning, academic achievement and long-term success. The CBE Administrative Regulation 6020 - Attendance of Students applies to all students, and outlines the responsibilities for students, parents and school staff.
