Simon Fraser School is a place where students and parents are warmly invited to become involved in a partnership with staff, creating a positive atmosphere and providing instruction conducive to quality learning. It is hoped through your input and participation that all members of our learning community will develop an ownership and pride for Simon Fraser.
Academic Core subjects are the centre of a very active and vital school program. We continue to offer daily physical activity for all students as we believe that healthy lifestyles facilitate healthy minds. We also have a very robust CTF and complementary program to engage every type of learner.
Our Wellness Program focuses on welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environments facilitated through student workshops/ conferences, guest speakers, performances, staff development, home room activities and trips.
At Simon Fraser we celebrate the diverse strengths, talents and challenges of each student and we strive to work in partnership with parents to create a sense of safety, belonging, and success for every individual.
Parents enhance their child’s success at school by being informed, ensuring attendance, demonstrating interest and following-through on daily progress. We wish to maintain close contact with parents, and encourage any parent with questions or concerns to email teachers, or administration or call at 403-777-7290. Communication will enhance opportunities for success. We sincerely believe that any success we have with students at school is dependent upon close collaboration with the home. In this connection, we strongly urge parents to attend School Council Meetings which are held monthly – see calendar. Teachers will also communicate to students and parents using PowerSchool and Google Classroom.
Simon Fraser School was built in 1964 and is situated on 3.8 acres. The school has 28 classrooms and we cater to a diverse student population of students in grades 5 to 9.

Who Was Simon Fraser?
Simon Fraser School was named for a fur trader and explorer who was born in 1776 and died in 1862. Simon Fraser was employed by the North West Company and in 1805 he was put in charge of the company's fur trading operations in central British Columbia. Between 1805 and 1807, Fraser built the first permanent settlement in British Columbia. Trying to find a safe canoe route to the Pacific, he and a party of 23 others set out in May 1808 to travel down the turbulent river which now bears his name. We are proud that Simon Fraser students show the same courage and spirit of adventure in pursuit of their goals.

School Development Plan
Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.

School Improvement Results Report
Our school also prepares a results plan, which looks at our previous school year. It shows our students’ achievement and progress in meeting the goals and outcomes as set out by the CBE and Alberta Education, outlines some of the highlights of our school development plan and gives an overview of our school. You can look on the CBE website for system-wide results.
