Dear Simon Fraser Families,

We are excited to welcome our students and families to the 2023-24 school year.  We hope families will take a few moments to review the information included here to support a smooth transition back to school.

Reminders and Information

Timetables and Classlists MyCBE / PowerSchool

Your child's MyCBE/PowerSchool information will not be visible until the first day of school.  Fees will not be visible until after school start-up. 

Changes to Timetables and Class Make-Up

Students have been placed into classes through a thoughtful process by last year's teaching team.  Changes for this year will be made through a collaborative team approach after we have had time for our learners to settle.  We review how your child is doing academically and socially and then consider whether a change may be required.  We ask families to reach out if you have some questions in the first month.  Changes to options will be available starting on September 11 to the 15.  We want students to try the option before making extensive changes to scheduling.  

Transportation

Just a reminder that all families requiring busing must apply in MyCBE.  If you currently have not registered for busing it could take several weeks to secure a spot on the bus.  Also, families can go into PowerSchool to see their stop for this coming year.

Staffing Update 

We are now fully staffed.  We had three temporary contracts to fill to start the year.  We will be welcoming Ms. Murray Grade 6, Ms. Tremblay Grade 8 Humanities, and Ms. Lim Grade 8 Math and Science.  We also have a new C Secretary in the main office Ms. Verbeurgt.  

Resource Update

The learning commons is refreshed and ready to welcome back students!

We know that there can be many feelings about transitioning to a new school and new grade (or even back to school).  If it will be supportive to your student to have a tour of the school and time to connect with Ms. Johnson prior to the first day of school, please email her at lojohnson@cbe.ab.ca to arrange for a time.  She is reserving Tuesday between 10-2:30 for these opportunities. 

Information regarding the Individual Program Plan (IPP) process will be forthcoming in a future parent update.
