Meet the Teacher was very well attended! Thank you to all the families that came out to meet the staff and learn more about the programming at Simon Fraser. Here are a few updates and reminders for the week ahead:

Casino Fundraiser - Volunteers Required

On December 13 and 14, 2023 the Simon Fraser Junior High Education Support Association will be hosting a casino. We require a minimum of 36 volunteers for the two-day event. There are both day shifts and night shifts available. The jobs are easy to perform, and all training is provided, as well as a free meal. The casino will take place at Ace Airport Casino (40 Aero Cres NE).

This is a major fundraiser for our school and will generate approximately $60,000 in funds to be spent enhancing our children’s educational resources and experiences. These funds go towards paying for things like computers, library resources, physical education equipment, and special events. If we cannot get enough volunteers, we will forfeit the casino funds - which would be a huge loss for our school.

Please consider volunteering for the casino. All volunteer positions must be filled by early October to apply for our license. Demographic and Media Release Forms

Demographic, Citizenship and Annual Authorization are found in MyCBE in SchoolEngage. Please prioritize the review and approval of these forms. These will show up on the first day of school. *Please note, that once you submit your forms in SchoolEngage, you are unable to make changes. You will need to contact the school to have those changes made*
If families do not approve the media release, your child’s picture will not be displayed in the yearbook.

Athletics at Simon Fraser

With athletics starting once again, we want to remind families of the CMLSAA guidelines for hosting sports. Students are not allowed to visit a hosting school unless accompanied by a parent/guardian. Students from Simon Fraser are asked to come and support the team for the early games, if attending the late games, please have a parent/guardian in attendance. Students will not be permitted into the gym at hosting schools until their guardian arrives. Please see the attached calendar under Resources highlighting the games Simon Fraser Soccer and Cross Country for the coming week.

MyCBE Reference Sheet

At meet the teacher, Ms. Varner held two sessions for parents to learn more about accessing MyCBE to review their child’s ongoing achievement. Please see attached a reference sheet that walks you through the process of accessing your child’s progress (achievement indicators, assessment criteria and teacher feedback/comments)

Gym Strip Update

If you ordered gym strip prior to the summer break, those items will be delivered to the school in the next two weeks. We will then distribute the items to your student. If you have not ordered gym strip and would like to, we are having a sale to clear out our remaining inventory at school. Please note that there is a delay in the items being added to PowerSchool, so you may wish to bring in cash to the office. Once payment is received we will get the correct size and items to your student. Please note that sizing may be limited as our stock is being sold. Prices are as follows:
