Dear Simon Fraser Families,
We were very disappointed that the snow ended our soccer season early. The players had such a great season!. Basketball tournaments and games are keeping the school busy in the evenings, and our teams our having an incredible season! Reminder that Simon Fraser students are welcome to stay for the early games, but must head home for the late games due to safety and supervision. To honor Rememberance Day, we will be holding two assemblies on November 8. We will send more information next week. Parents who would like to attend are welcome!

Halloween Costume Contest
Leadership 9 is hosting a Halloween Costume Contest on October 31. All grades are welcome. There will be 5 categories: Funny, Horror, Creative, Movie & Characters/Other (ex: Animals, plants, sports players, etc) If students want to participate, they can sign up on the main floor close to the stairs entrance. Just a reminder that there are no masks or weapons of any kind allowed.

Jacket Racket has provided clean, gently used winter jackets to families since the 1980’s. They provide coats, snowpants, hats and mittens for families struggling. If you need any of the following, please email Ms. Casagranda accasagranda@cbe.ab.ca with your order. See the chart below for sizes:

Parent-Teacher Conferences - Parent Engagement
Thank you to all parents who responded to our engagement survey on parent-teacher conferences. There were 140 responses with 60 percent of parents requesting online and 40 percent in person. The conferences are on November 23 and 24. We will be sending out the interview booking times in the middle of November. Please mark your calendars!
We will keep our current approach with Thursday evening from 4pm to 8pm in person conferences with teaching pods (grades 7,8,9) for the core subjects, and individual conferences for grades 5, 6, options and physical education. Friday will be the opportunity for families to book virtual conferences from 9 am to 1 pm.
Fun Lunch
Healthy Hunger is back! Families must order by midnight the Friday before the fun lunch. We want to thank School Council and Ms. Rita Samari for organizing and supporting the fun lunches.
The Fun Lunch Opportunities will be in Healthy Hunger for families to purchase for their child(ren). We will have a weekly Fun Lunch every Wednesday. Reminder that if you order a fun lunch and your child is sick/away, please call or email us before 12:00 to let us know what you would like us to do with the lunch. If we have not heard from a family, we will donate the lunch to another child who may not have lunch.

 - Click “Add Student”
 - Fill in your child’s information
 - Select Simon Fraser School
 - For “Select Grade” you will choose your child’s homeroom/teacher
 - You can begin ordering food by date
 
Individual Program Plans (IPPs)
If you have not yet returned your child’s signed IPP (Individual Program Plan), please do so. Once again, please reach out to lojohnson@cbe.ab.ca if there are any changes to the IPP, and we will facilitate a meeting with your child’s teaching team.
Reminder to all families that even on Fridays students should bring a snack. We do have some lunches and snacks donated and students are consuming more than we have! Have a wonderful weekend as a family. We look forward to welcoming your children back for a full week of learning next week!
