Inform| School Act Section 58.1

Your child is currently enrolled in the Alberta Education Health and Life Skills Program of Study in grades five to nine. The program aims to enable students to make well-informed, healthy choices and to develop behaviours that contribute to the wellbeing of self and others.

Human sexuality education is offered in grade four to nine as a mandatory component of the Program of Study. Pursuant to Section 58.1(2) of the Education Act, you as a parent/guardian may request that your child be excluded from the human sexuality part of the instruction without academic penalty (see attached notice for more information). Please be aware that if you would like your child exempt from this part of Health, the applicable student exemption form must be signed and returned to your child’s PE teacher by March 18, 2024.

Inform| Ramadan

Ramadan Mubarak! The Holy Month of Ramadan has begun, and we are happy to support students throughout the month. If students have any needs during this time of prayer and fasting, students/families should let Connect teachers know.

Please note, Simon Fraser School will have a prayer room set up at lunch should students require it. Unfortunately, due to space and supervision restraints, we are unable to provide a prayer room during instructional hours. Additionally, students who are fasting are welcome to spend the lunch hour in Room 1.
