Hello families!

Please note that tomorrow, Friday, September 25 is a non-instructional day for students. Staff will be engaged in professional learning activities, and there will be no classes.

On September 30, Canada recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, the Survivors, their families, and Indigenous communities. It is a time for reflection, learning, and recognizing the lasting impacts of residential schools and the importance of reconciliation.

At Simon Fraser School, we are committed to helping students learn about Indigenous histories, perspectives, cultures, and contributions in age-appropriate ways throughout the year. As we approach September 30, classes will engage in learning activities that encourage understanding, respect, and reflection on the ongoing journey toward reconciliation.

Please note that students will not attend school on September 30 as schools will be closed in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We encourage families to take time to learn, reflect, and participate in community events or conversations that support reconciliation.

We are grateful for the opportunity to learn together and honour the voices and experiences of Indigenous peoples as we continue to build a more inclusive and respectful future for all.

How to Order:

Remind| Demographic Information – OVERDUE

You will have received an email from CBE regarding updating your child’s demographic information in MyCBE These forms used to be completed via paper copies and now are required to be completed annually online. All parents must review, complete or update their child’s forms through MyCBE by clicking on the School Engage tab.

This is now an overdue task. Please ensure that it is done urgently. Otherwise, our school staff will follow up directly with families.

Request| Athletic Court Donations

Simon Fraser School is seeking support to build a new outdoor athletic court for our students. With limited space available during recess and lunch, many students do not currently have access to structured, active play opportunities. An outdoor court would provide a safe and inclusive space for a variety of physical activities.

The court would also enhance our Physical Education and Wellness programs, giving students greater opportunities to develop healthy habits, teamwork, and physical literacy. For many of our students, school is their primary place to access sports and recreational activities. This project will help ensure that all students, regardless of their circumstances outside of school, have opportunities to stay active and engaged.

Research consistently shows that regular physical activity supports improved focus, mental well-being, and academic success. Beyond the physical benefits, the court will create a welcoming space where students can connect with peers, build friendships, and develop a strong sense of belonging within our school community.

Thanks to the generous efforts of our School Council, funding has already been secured for a significant portion of this project. However, we still need additional support to bring this vision to life. Every contribution brings us one step closer to creating a lasting space that will benefit Simon Fraser students for years to come. To Donate, click on this link

Remind| Student Health Plans

To help support the health, safety, and well-being of all students, families are asked to complete a Student Health Plan if their child has a medical condition that may affect their school day or if medication needs to be administered during the school day. The plan outlines important information about the student's health needs, medication requirements, potential side effects, emergency responses, communication procedures, and parent/guardian contact information. Student Health Plans are reviewed annually and should be updated whenever there is a change in a student's medical condition or treatment. Please complete and return the attached Student-Health-Plan.pdf as soon as possible if it applies to your child. If you need a printed copy of the form, please notify the school and we will have one sent home with your child.
