Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thank you to all the families who attended our Meet the Teacher Night yesterday. It was wonderful to see so many parents, guardians, and students in our school, and we appreciate the opportunity to build strong connections between home and school.

We would also like to remind families that the staff parking lot is reserved for staff vehicles only and should not be used by parents or guardians for parking, drop-off, pick-up, or event access.

Unfortunately, following yesterday's soccer game, a hit-and-run incident occurred in the staff parking lot, resulting in damage to a teacher's vehicle. This unfortunate situation highlights the importance of ensuring that only authorized vehicles enter and use this area.

We respectfully ask all parents and guardians to:

  • Refrain from parking in the staff parking lot at any time.
  • Avoid driving through or entering the staff parking area unless specifically authorized.
  • Use designated visitor parking and approved street parking when attending school events.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment and protect the property of our staff members.

Invite| School Council AGM

One of the most important ways parents, guardians, and community members can make a meaningful difference in students' educational experiences is by participating in the School Council.

Under the Education Act, a School Council is a collaborative advisory body that provides input to the principal and the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School Councils have legislated advisory and decision-making responsibilities as outlined in the Education Act and the School Councils Regulation.

We invite all parents, guardians, and community members to attend our first School Council and AGM meeting of the year:

Date: Monday, September 21, 2026
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Location: In person at Simon Fraser School

Action | IPP Students

If you have received an email from Ms. Johnson with a link to gather information for your student’s IPP, please complete that ASAP. We are working on this important document on our non-instructional day this Friday. Thank you!

Inform| Library

We are off to a wonderful start in the library this year! Students in Grades 6-9 have been visiting the library to learn how to find books, use our catalogue, and explore the many resources available to them. It has been great to see so much enthusiasm for reading and learning.

We have also added new titles to our collection, including graphic novels, Indigenous literature, and student-requested books.

Library Reminders:

  • Students may borrow up to 2 books at a time.
  • Books are checked out for a 2-week loan period and may be renewed if needed.
  • Please encourage students to return books on time and in good condition so others can enjoy them as well.
  • Lost or damaged books may result in a replacement fee.

Caring for Library Books

  • Keeping books away from food and drinks
  • Using bookmarks instead of folding pages
  • Storing books safely at home and in backpacks
  • Supporting Reading at Home

As we prepare for Truth and Reconciliation Week, the library will be featuring a collection of books that highlight Indigenous histories, voices, and perspectives for both classroom use and student borrowing.

Thank you for supporting reading at home and helping us build a strong reading culture at Simon Fraser School. We look forward to sharing more library news throughout the year if you have any questions about library services, book loans, overdue materials, or replacement fees, please feel free to contact the School Office.

Inform| Healthy Hunger

Healthy Hunger is back! Orders will alternate weekly between lunch and snack days for all participating students. To place an order, log in or create a parent account at www.healthyhunger.ca . Add your student under Simon Fraser School with their teacher/home room number and complete your payment online.

Please remember that all orders must be submitted by the Friday (midnight) deadline the week prior to the lunch.

Update| Terry Fox Run

We are proud to share that our Terry Fox Run was a tremendous success! Students, staff, and families came together to celebrate Terry Fox's legacy of courage, determination, and hope while supporting an important cause.

We are especially excited to announce that our school community raised $1634.50 for cancer research. This achievement reflects the generosity and community spirit of our students and families, and we are grateful for every contribution.

Throughout the day, students demonstrated great enthusiasm and perseverance as they participated in the run, learning about the impact one person can have when they are committed to making a difference. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the positive example they set.

Thank you to everyone who donated, participated, and helped make this event such a meaningful experience. Together, we are helping to keep Terry's dream alive and make a difference in the lives of others.

Remind | Mobile Device Policy
