Remind| Spectators at Basketball Games and Tournaments
We are excited to welcome another great athletic season and look forward to supporting and cheering on our student-athletes throughout the year.
To help ensure that all games are safe, respectful, and enjoyable for everyone, the Calgary Board of Education middle schools have established common expectations for spectators and athletes. These expectations include:
- All visiting student spectators must be under the direct supervision of their parent/guardian for the entire duration of the game.
- There are no in-and-out privileges for spectators. If you leave the building, you will not be permitted to re-enter.
- Student spectators without parental or designated adult supervision will be directed by school administration to leave the building.
- Cell phones must remain in bags during games. Students are not permitted to take photos or record videos due to privacy considerations for all athletes.
- Parents and guardians who choose to take photos or videos of their child are asked to be mindful of the privacy of other student-athletes.
- All spectators, both students and adults, are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship by supporting players, coaches, officials, and fellow spectators in a positive and respectful manner.
- Disrespectful, disruptive, or inappropriate behaviour will be addressed promptly by school administration and may result in individuals being asked to leave the game and school property.
- Parents and guardians who bring younger children are responsible for their direct supervision at all times. Children should not be wandering hallways or using physical education equipment in the gymnasium or on the stage.
These expectations have been reviewed with our students at school. We kindly ask that families also discuss them at home to help ensure a positive experience for all participants and spectators.
Thank you for your ongoing support of Simon Fraser School and our student-athletes. We look forward to seeing you at our games and celebrating another successful season together.
Remind| Video Surveillance
Our school has a video surveillance system to help maintain a safe and secure environment at the school for students, staff and the public, and to help address vandalism and criminal activity on school property.
The video surveillance system is installed and reviewed in accordance with Administrative Regulation 1066. Personal information is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), specifically section 10(1) and the Access to Information Act (ATIA).
This technology can be placed in areas such as the school parking lot, building entrances and exits, stairwells, and hallways. This information is recorded and collected to help maintain a safe and secure environment in the school and on school property. The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.
Inquiries concerning the video surveillance system, or the collection and use of recorded information may be made by contacting the school office.
Request| Transportation Devices
We have noticed an increase in the number of e-scooters, scooters, skateboards, and other personal transportation devices being brought to school. Unfortunately, we do not have sufficient indoor storage space to safely accommodate these items during the school day.
Students who bring these devices to school should ensure they can be securely locked to the bike racks outside. If your child is unable to properly secure their device, we ask that families consider alternative transportation arrangements, as we cannot store these items inside the school.
We understand this may be inconvenient, and we are currently exploring additional outdoor storage solutions. We will keep families informed if other options become available.
As a reminder, for the safety of all students, staff, and community members, bikes, scooters, e-scooters, skateboards, and similar devices should not be ridden on school property. Students are expected to dismount and walk these devices once they enter school grounds.
