Dear Simon Fraser Families,
We are excited to have had our first group of sailors out on the West Coast Trip. Reminder to review the information below regarding the solar eclipse! Here are a few reminders and updates for this next week:
- April 8 – Solar Eclipse – All students bring lunch to stay at school
 - April 10 – Opa Fun Lunch
 - April 17 – Spring Picture Day

School Engagement Results
In March we held an in-person presentation regarding the school development plan and school fees. We also reached out to our families to share this information and request feedback. We would like to share the results of this engagement with our families. Please preview the results. We are thankful to all those who responded and for the support of our ongoing planning to foster student success!
Solar Eclipse
One more reminder for families regarding the Solar Eclipse and the precautions we will be taking as a school community.
- The solar event will begin just before noon and conclude by 2:00 p.m., with the maximum coverage occurring at 12:43 p.m. We know that this provides a unique learning experience for students and staff in our schools; however, there can be serious impacts to vision because of viewing the eclipse in an unsafe manner.
 - During this partial solar eclipse on Monday, we would like to invite all students to remain at school during the lunch break. Please send lunch with your child. If students are not participating in educational activities around the event, schools may choose to have students involved in supervised indoor activities.

If you decide that your child will walk home for lunch on Monday, please discuss with your child not to look at the sun to protect their eyes from damage by the solar eclipse. During a solar eclipse, looking directly at the sun is dangerous. Safe viewing of the eclipse requires wearing specialized glasses or watching through a telescope or solar binoculars that have specialized lenses and should only be performed under the direction of a professional.
For more safety information can be found on the NASA website or from the Canadian Association of Optometrists.
If you have further questions, please contact the Simon Fraser School Office.
What happens on Fridays
Fridays are a regular school day at Simon Fraser and all CBE Schools. Our Fridays work on a rotating schedule so all students attend their core classes. We start every Friday with a wellness block that directly supports students to learn the skills and abilities to support improvements to executive functioning skills (study, organizational and regulation in learning). As the week draws to a close, there is a natural inclination to conclude units of study. Fridays are often the days where teachers administer summative assessments or directly oversee assignment completion. In many ways, Friday can be the most significant day of the week in respect to student achievement. If your children ask for the day off, please have them come to school!
Moving Soon
As we prepare for our 2024-25 School year, it is important to have accurate enrollment numbers. If you know you are moving out of the Simon Fraser boundary, we would appreciate if you called or emailed the school to inform us your child(ren) will not be attending next year. This helps us prepare for the upcoming year.
