Request| Volunteers
On Friday, September 13th, Simon Fraser will be celebrating their annual Wellness Day (formally known as Peace Initiatives Day). The purpose of this day is to build community, recognize diversity, connect with the outdoors and promote a sense of wellness. To make this day a success, we require 6 parent volunteers to assist in running game stations. All the stations will be set up by teachers. Volunteers would assist with encouraging student participation and explaining the rules of the game (don't worry, the games are very simple). The time commitment is 8:00-11:00.
Please contact your child's homeroom teacher by Wednesday, September 11th if you are interested in volunteering.
For more information about volunteering, please visit the CBE website here.
Invite| Meet the Teacher
Parents, legal guardians, and students are invited to join us at our annual Meet the Teacher night taking place on Thursday September 19, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Please see our official invite for more information.
Inform| Subscribe to Stay Informed
Due to Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), you need to subscribe online if you want to receive email or text messages on “commercial” school topics such as picture days, student fees, field trip costs, yearbooks, fun lunches and more. If you do not subscribe, you will not receive these important messages (or any of my messages containing such content) but you will receive emails on non-commercial topics such as absence and emergency notifications. In addition, if you want to receive any text messages from your school or the Calgary Board of Education, you need to opt-in for texts.
To receive all messages, complete these two steps:
- To subscribe to receive commercial messages, go to www.cbe.ab.ca/subscribe to enter your email address and click Subscribe. Use your primary email address on le at your school.
 - To opt-in to receive text messages, use your cell phone to text the word YES to the six-digit number 978338. Your cell number must be on file with the school

Invite| School Council AGM
Did you know that as parents and guardians of students at Simon Fraser School, you are automatically a member of the School Council? We’d love to have you join us on Monday, September 23rd in our Learning Commons for the Annual General Meeting. Information will also be shared about the 2024-2025 school year, school and updates from our Admin Team. We look forward to seeing you then.
Inform| Complementary Course Changes
Students have had the opportunity to try their complementary courses. If students want to switch to a different course, they need to fill out a Complementary Course Change request, have it signed by a parent/guardian, and return the form by Friday, September 13th. Change request forms were made available starting today.
Request| Forms
Each year, schools have a variety of forms that parents/legal guardians must complete or review and update, some of which are paper and others online. In CBE, the forms in an online format (SchoolEngage) are:
- Demographic Verification – 2024–25 – This form includes your child’s personal information and parent/legal guardian contact information.
 - Citizenship Information Update - 2024-25 – This form becomes available if you change your child’s citizenship information on the Demographic Verification form.
 - Annual Authorization - 2024-25 – Combines the following forms:
 - School District Use of Personal Information - explains how CBE uses personal information in providing education services.
 - Consent for CBE Use of Student Information – provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by school/district and third parties.
 - Consent for Use of Student Information by News Media and Outside Groups (Third Party) - provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by outside groups and third parties

SchoolEngage is one of the applications found in your MyCBE account. This is the same account that you use to pay fees, view academic information, book school conferences, etc.
If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help refer to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video).
To complete these forms:
- sign in to your MyCBE account
 - click on the SchoolEngage icon
 - select the form
 - complete or review and update the form
 - click on Submit to send the form electronically to the school
 - repeat steps 3-5 for each form

Please submit the Demographic Verification and Annual Authorization forms in SchoolEngage for your child by Monday, September 16. These forms are mandatory every year for Alberta Education to confirm student funding.
Update| Terry Fox Run
On Thursday, September 12th, students in grades 5 to 9 will be participating in our eighth annual Simon Fraser Terry Fox Run. This event is dedicated to creating awareness and raising money for cancer research. Many people today have been impacted by cancer, either directly or indirectly, so this year we will be asking students to personally dedicate their run to someone. This can be a relative, family friend, a general group, or Terry Fox himself.
This week, students were given a brief presentation on the heroic efforts of Terry Fox in their Physical Education class. Students will be challenged to donate a “Toonie for Terry” to raise funds for the Terry Fox Foundation. This is 100% voluntary. Those students unable to bring in donations are still able to participate in the event.
On the day of the event, students will run a predetermined route that includes both the field at Simon Fraser School, as well as the greater Brentwood area. This covers approximately 3.5 km. Teachers will be regularly posted throughout the route, ensuring students safety and providing encouragement along the way. Please make sure your student has running shoes, a water bottle and athletic clothing for the day.
We are very pleased to be hosting this year’s Terry Fox Run as we encourage our students to develop a sense of volunteerism and goodwill, while celebrating school spirit. Thank you in advance for your support!
Remind| Athletics
Families are reminded that athletes must be picked-up on time at the conclusion of tryouts, games, and practices as teachers have many other obligations to attend to.
