Thank you to our amazing soccer athletes, coaches and supporters for a wonderful soccer season. Although our teams did not make the finals, it was a great season full of teamwork, skill development and amazing acts of athleticism!

I would also like to take a moment to recognize all the work that has been put into making our Jr. and Sr. Basketball tournaments a huge success. Finals for senior teams take place tonight – Go Flames!

Inform| Individual Student Profiles (ISPs)

In May and June of last year, Grade 6/9 students throughout the province wrote Provincial Achievement Tests.  Results from these tests provide Alberta Education, school administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, students and the public with information about what students know and can do in relation to provincial standards at the end of Grade 6/9.

Provincial Achievement Tests are based on what students have been learning throughout the school year, they are marked by teachers before they are returned to Alberta Education in June.

Please be aware that grade 7 students were given copies of their ISPs today to take home.

Please note that parents/guardians can access results directly using myPass.

Reminder| Individual Program Plans (IPPs):

If your child is on an IPP, please ensure you sign documents and return them to your child’s teacher. Should you have any questions, please connect with Lois Johnson at the school.

Invite| School Council Meeting

We are excited to invite you to our upcoming School Council meeting on October 22, 2024, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents/guardians to engage with our school community and contribute to the enhancement of your child’s educational experience.

During the meeting, we will cover the following important points:

  • Learn about and celebrate the learning that is happening at school
  • Discuss how the School Council can positively impact student learning for the 2024-25 school year.

Your involvement is essential, and we encourage all parents to participate. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in our school community.

Please contact the school office for the link to this meeting.

Inform| School Development Plan (SDP)

Alberta Education requires each school to create a plan to improve student learning. The School Development Plan (SDP) aligns individual school goals with the identified goals in CBE Education Plan | 2024 – 2027; Learning Excellence, Well-Being and Truth & Reconciliation, Diversity and Inclusion. At SFS, we are currently analyzing our data to guide our SDP. I will be speaking directly to our SDP and consulting with families at the School Council meeting this week!

Reminder| Spectating at Other Schools

Student spectators wishing to watch their peers participate in athletics at opposing schools must be accompanied and actively supervised by their parent(s)/guardian(s). In the event that a Simon Fraser student does not have this supervision at an opposing school, they will be asked to leave by the school administration.

Thank you so much for supporting our athletes, coaches and referees throughout the athletic season

Request| Remembrance Day Support

The Simon Fraser School Remembrance Day assemblies will be held on Thursday, November 7 this year. We are currently looking for anyone in our parent community that is or was involved in the Armed Forces, or who has a connection to them, to be a guest speaker for our assembly. If you are or know anyone who is interested in helping us to make this event a success, please email me!
