Last Call| Class Lists
As we begin planning for the 2025–26 school year, we want to acknowledge the importance of children having varied learning experiences with a range of peers and teaching styles. In most cases, making a specific placement request is not necessary and not usually in the best interest of the student, as it may limit these valuable growth opportunities.
That said, we understand there may be circumstances where families feel it is important to share information that could support their child’s success next year. While we do our best to consider parent/guardian input, we cannot guarantee that all requests are honoured.
When creating class lists, our goal is to make balanced learning environments that support the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students. In doing so, we consider several factors, including learning needs, peer dynamics, and teacher input.
If you wish to make a classroom placement request, please keep the following in mind:
- Requests should focus on your own child’s individual learning needs (academic, social-emotional, etc.).
 - Requests involving peers will only be considered if there is a demonstrated positive and productive working relationship between the students.
 - Please remember that other families may have different requests, and students you mention may have different needs or placements being considered.
 - All requests must be submitted using the form in the link provided. Verbal requests or emails sent to teachers, or the school office will not be considered.
 - The deadline to complete the request form is Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 6:00 PM. Requests submitted after this deadline will not be considered.

As we review your input, we will consider it through the lens of what is best for your child and the learning environment.

Inform| Grade 9 Farewell
The paperwork will be sent home soon for our two year-end field trips. These field trips will be our way to celebrate our grade nine students and their time here at Simon Fraser.
On Monday June 23rd, the grade nine students will be heading to Crowfoot Cineplex to hang out with friends and watch the live action version of, “How to Train Your Dragon”. Please note that regular popcorn and regular soft drinks are included in the price.
Then on the morning of Wednesday June 25th, the grade nines will head out again to the AL Azhar Shriners Centre where they will have a BBQ (Burger, Chicken Burger or Veggie Burger and a bag of chips and a can of pop or bottle of water), play some outdoor games and enjoy some music from the DJ we booked.
For both celebration events, we will be back at school to catch the buses at the end of the day. The fees for these field trips are on PowerSchool. If you have any questions or concerns or would like to volunteer, please email Chantelle Marjoram at cemarjoram@cbe.ab.ca.
***We need 5 volunteers for the Al Azhar Shriners Field Trip (1 per homeroom) and 2-3 volunteers for the Crowfoot Cineplex Event***
Inform| OurSCHOOL Student Survey Administration
Over the month of May, Simon Fraser students will be participating in an online school perception survey called the OurSCHOOL Student Survey. This anonymous survey is completely voluntary for all CBE students. Please find the details of the survey implementation below.
CBE’s Education Plan prioritizes student voice and well-being in our decision-making processes. Responses from this survey are used at the system and school level to recognize and improve what is necessary for students to feel safe, welcome, and cared for when at school.
Students provide feedback on:
- sense of belonging
 - positive relationships
 - anxiety
 - feeling safe at school
 - life satisfaction
 - general health
 - orientation to well-being
 - goal-oriented
 - self-regulation
 - cultural awareness of others
 - Additionally, Grades 6-9 students provide feedback on:
 - depression
 - self-esteem
 - cultural awareness of self

Demographic questions are also asked on this survey for norming purposes. These are including age, gender, Indigenous status, immigrant status, home language. Grade 6-9 students will also be asked questions related to grade repeater, reasons for changing schools, disability or medical conditions that limit participation in school activities or learning.
If you have questions or would like to request more information about our implementation of the OurSCHOOL Student Survey, please contact kmvarner@cbe.ab.ca
