Inform| Dangerous TikTok Trend Involving School Devices
We want to make families aware of a viral TikTok trend known as the “Chromebook Challenge,” which encourages students to tamper with ports and batteries on school devices. This includes inserting objects such as pencil lead or paper clips into digital devices.
These actions are extremely dangerous as they can cause sparks, smoke, and in some cases, fires. Beyond damaging property, tampering with electronics can release toxic fumes that pose serious health risks.
As a reminder, students and their families are financially responsible for any damage to school-issued devices. Students found engaging in this behavior will face progressive disciplinary consequences, which may include loss of technology privileges and potential suspensions.
We would encourage all parents/guardians to be aware of their student's online behavior and monitor social media accounts closely. Some things to consider:
- Do you allow students to have social media accounts? Have they created one without you knowing?
 - Do you know what accounts they have and use? (Snapchat, Instagram, Discord, Tik Tok, What's App, etc...).
 - Do you know that most social media accounts require users to be at least 13 years of age?
 - If your child does have access to technology and/or social media, are you aware of what they are doing on those apps?

Please take time this weekend to speak with your child about the dangers of following harmful online trends, their social media presences and the importance of using school devices responsibly.
Thank you for helping us keep our school community safe.
Inform| Grade 9 Farewell
The paperwork will be sent home soon for our two year-end field trips. These field trips will be our way to celebrate our grade nine students and their time here at Simon Fraser.
On Monday June 23rd, the grade nine students will be heading to Crowfoot Cineplex to hang out with friends and watch the live action version of, “How to Train Your Dragon”. Please note that regular popcorn and regular soft drinks are included in the price.
Then on the morning of Wednesday June 25th, the grade nines will head out again to the AL Azhar Shriners Centre where they will have a BBQ (Burger, Chicken Burger or Veggie Burger and a bag of chips and a can of pop or bottle of water), play some outdoor games and enjoy some music from the DJ we booked.
For both celebration events, we will be back at school to catch the buses at the end of the day. The fees for these field trips are on PowerSchool. If you have any questions or concerns or would like to volunteer, please email Chantelle Marjoram at cemarjoram@cbe.ab.ca.
***We need 5 volunteers for the Al Azhar Shriners Field Trip (1 per homeroom) and 2-3 volunteers for the Crowfoot Cineplex Event***
