On Friday, Simon Fraser School celebrated National Indigenous Peoples’ Day by marking the occasion with a variety of activities and a renewed commitment to truth and reconciliation. In recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day, and in alignment with the CBE Education Plan, we proudly acknowledge and support the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s (TRC) Calls to Action, and makes the following commitment to action for the 2025-2026 school year:  We will increase our foundational understanding of Indigenous people’s relationship to the land and deepen our understanding of the collective rights and responsibilities of treaties and being a treaty person.

This week, our grade 6 and 9 students finished their Provincial Achievement Tests. We thank all our students, staff, and families who supported these exams. Preliminary results will be coming home with students in a sealed envelope next week: Tuesday for grade 9’s and Wednesday for grade 6's. Please note that the results will not be considered final until provincial marking is complete. Finalized Individual Results will be shared with families in the fall.

We would like to take this moment to recognize grade 9 student Grayson C. who was nominated for the Joan Mugford Memorial Award for Art, and grade 7 student Jasper L. who placed 18th out of 455 students at the University of Calgary Junior Math Contest! Well done Flames!

Inform| Staffing Updates

While staffing for the 2025-2026 school year continues to evolve, we have a couple more announcements:

  • Juri Pikal has finished his successful tenure at Simon Fraser School. We would like to thank him for his work, and we wish him much success in his future endeavors
  • Welcome to Kathrina Cabalteja  who is joining our team in Math/Science

Remind| Half Day on Thursday, June 26, 2025

The last day of school for the school year takes place on Thursday, June 26. This will be half a day for students and buses will pick students up at our regular Friday dismissal time. Any parents picking their children up, please note the early dismissal time.

Inform| Report Cards

Families will be able to view online through MyCBE student report cards for kindergarten to Grade 12 on June 25th. Report cards for the 2025-26 school year may be viewed, downloaded, and/or printed.

Parents and Guardians can sign into MyCBE  to view student information, including report cards, comments from your child’s teacher, assignments and grades, and attendance information. For best access to information, log in to the MyCBE  portal instead of using the PowerSchool App.

Urgent| IPPs Signature Sheets Overdue

Families of students with IPPs, please sign and return the sheet as soon as possible. If it suits your needs, snap a picture of the signed sheet and email it to lojohnson@cbe.ab.ca. Check this off your list today!

Remind| Extended Leaves

Simon Fraser School does not encourage extended leaves for students during the school year. If families decide to take students out of school for longer than one week, an Extended Leave Form (available at the office) must be completed PRIOR to the absence.

In addition, if we are unable to determine a student's attendance in the first week of school, their place at Simon Fraser School may be given to the next student on our waiting list. If you have any questions about extended absences, please contact the school office.

Remind| School Fees are Due

This is a reminder to please pay your school fees in MyCBE when the activity occurs. The school has already paid the vendors for many of our past field trips and now we are waiting for families to pay their fees to cover these costs. We request that all families pay outstanding fees so that we can continue offering these valuable learning opportunities to our students.

Parents/guardians are welcome to come to the office to pay fees in person or online. Please call the school office if you need any support with paying fees.

Remind| 2025-26 Transportation Registration, by June 22
