It is hard to believe it is already the middle of April. Time is flying and there is much happening at school.
I would like to take a moment to celebrate all our students regarding the wellness work they are engaged in. Last week, students took time to thank the people and businesses that help make our school community great. We have heard from local businesses how happy they were to receive thank-you notes from students, and many have proudly displayed them in their storefronts. Today, all our students engaged in a community clean-up and the fields/spaces in and around the school look amazing.
I am looking forward to our school production next week and the two evening performances. Staff and students have worked hard to bring this production to life, and I am very proud of their work!
Update| Current Grade 9 Students: Summer Math15 through CBe-Learn
If your student has been recommended to take Math 15 by their grade 9 math teacher, it is possible to take the course online through CBe-Learn during the summer. The course is best suited for students who are independent and motivated with self-discipline and time management skills. It will require a stable internet connection and 2-3 hours of sustained work time, daily, by the student. Strong reading comprehension and writing skills, and parental/guardian support are recommended.
If you would like your child to be registered for this course, please complete this form by April 30 to indicate to Ms. Johnson that you would like your student to be registered:
Request to register in Math 15
Students can only be registered by their current grade 9 student services teacher (registration will not be open to parents/guardians). Ms. Johnson will register Simon Fraser students on May 5. Parents/guardians will receive an email of confirmation of registration the week of June 2 – 6.
Please direct questions to Ms. Johnson at lojohnson@cbe.ab.ca and she will try her best to answer them or find the answers for you.
Request| Snacks
Our snack stash is running dangerously low. And by “dangerously,” we mean we’re about one granola bar away from mutiny.
It is springtime and the kids are growing, active, and mysteriously hungry every 20 minutes. It’s as if they’re training for a snack-based Olympic event. We’ve seen oranges vanish in seconds, granola bars disappear without a trace, and don’t even get us started on the cheese strings (RIP, little cheesy buddies).
We need your help. If you’re able to send your child with enough snacks to fuel them for the day, we would be forever grateful—and so would our depleting budget/food source.
Thank you for keeping our learners fueled and our snack cabinet less echo-y. We appreciate you more than words (and snacks) can express!
Request| Bathroom Conversation
Lately, we’ve noticed an increase in students using the bathroom as an opportunity to meet up with friends or take extended breaks from class, especially our grade 9 boys! While we understand that everyone needs a break now and then, it’s important that bathroom use remains purposeful and respectful of learning time—for both the student and their classmates.
We kindly ask that you take a moment to speak with your child about the importance of using the bathroom appropriately and returning to class promptly. Leaving class to hang out with friends not only disrupts learning but can also lead to missed instruction and confusion in the classroom.
We truly appreciate your partnership in helping students make responsible choices and stay focused during the school day. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out.

Sharing Back | School Planning
Thank you to everyone who participated in our school planning engagement. We know we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together.
The feedback we received is compiled at the links below and will be thoughtfully considered in making decisions about school planning.
Please note that due to low participation in the meeting evaluation survey, and in the interest of protecting the anonymity of those who responded, we won’t be sharing the results on our school website.
