Inform| Classroom Disruption

A new carpet is being installed in our music room this coming week. Please be aware that music will take place outside of the classroom to allow the flooring team to complete the jobs as efficiently as possible.

Inform| Lunchtime Expectations

For grade 5 and 6 students, staying at school for lunch is a service that parents/guardians set up and pay for. Students are supervised by lunch supervisors, so students have a break with peers. Students must follow all the school rules which apply throughout the day.  For information pertaining to overall lunchroom expectations, please view the following link: LUNCHTIME STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

Our grade 7 to 9 students are permitted to leave campus at lunch, if parents/guardians permit. If a student or their family wishes to withdraw permission for a student to leave campus at lunch, please inform the office.

Inform| Bus Safety

Using CBE transportation is also a service which parents/guardians set up and pay for. All students who take the bus must follow the Student Code of Conduct.

Please review the following expectations with your child(ren). It’s important for them to understand and follow these expectations:SAFETY AND CONDUCT ON THE BUS

Inform| Wellness Initiatives

Our first Wellness initiative takes place on Friday, September 12th.  At Simon Fraser, we use this day to develop strong connections between peers and teach important skills to foster and maintain healthy relationships.

We will spend the day in our homeroom groups participating in team building activities to nurture a community of trust, openness and of course fun.

Request| School Handbook

Over the past two days, teachers reviewed the Simon Fraser School Handbook with students. This handbook contains a lot of information. Parents/guardians are asked to review information in this handbook, sign and return the back page by September 12, 2025.

Request| Health Forms

Students who become ill during school hours should inform their teacher and report to the office. Staff will then contact parents/guardian to pick up their child or give permission for him/her to go home. Students are not permitted to leave the school without parental permission. Remember to keep our office up to date with any changes in contact information.

Student Health Emergency Response Protocol Form
This form is to be used when there is a student health issue regarding attention. This includes when there is a request to administer medication.

Student Health Plan

This form is to be completed if:

  • A physical or medical condition may affect the student's attendance at school
  • Medication is to be taken at school,

Forms must be reviewed and updated annually or sooner if there is a change in the student's health concern or school registration.

Request| Annual Forms

The following annual forms are to be completed in SchoolEngage (MyCBE)

  • Demographic Verification Form
  • Annual Authorization Form
  • Citizenship Information Update Form
  • Volunteer Registration Form

Please complete forms at your earliest convenience!

Remind| School Hours

Students should not arrive at school earlier than 7:45 am as this is when our doors open and the staff is available to supervise. The only exception to this time is when students are expected to be here for tryouts, practices, and/or fine/performing arts programing.

Request| Traffic Safety and Punctuality

As students return to school, please remember the importance of being on time and being safe around Simon Fraser School. We expect all families to respect and follow the traffic safety laws.

Traffic Safety:

  • Students should use crosswalks and ensure drivers are stopped prior to crossing the road
  • The roads in front of the school are not for parking. If you wish to wait in the school grounds with your child prior to school starting, you must park in the surrounding communities. We appreciate your cooperation!
  • Do not use the staff parking lots for drop-off or pick-up at all.
  • Do not park in any of the designated bus lanes assigned by the City of Calgary.
  • Walk with your child on the sidewalks and not through the parking lots.
  • When driving through a school zone, remember:
  • Children do not perceive traffic like adults do – extra caution is needed.
  • The maximum permitted speed is 30 km/hr from 7:30 a.m. until 9 p.m.
  • Passing is not allowed within a school zone during the hours that the zone is in effect.
  • If you are driving South on 33rd Street, do not make u-turns in front of the school. Drive around the block or turn around at the bottom of the street
  • Do NOT Park:
    • within 5 m of a crosswalk. This ensures children are visible to other road users.
    • within 1.5 m of a driveway or garage.

We expect students to be on time for school. This means they are in their classrooms at 8:00 a.m. ready to learn. If students come to school after 8:00 a.m., they must go directly to the office and sign in.

Request| Casino Volunteers

We are urgently in need of volunteers for our upcoming casino on October 14th and 15th, 2025. We require 14 more volunteers to run the two-day event, or risk forfeiting the approximately $60,000 in casino funds our school could receive.

There are both day shifts and night shifts available. The jobs are easy to perform, and all training is provided, as well as a free meal. The casino will take place at Ace Airport Casino (40 Aero Cres NE).

Please consider volunteering for the casino. To view the available shifts, click the following link below and follow the instructions in the Sign-Up Genius:
