Thank you so much for taking the time to join us at our Meet the Teacher evening. It was wonderful to welcome families into our school, share information about student learning, and connect as a community.

Today, we held our annual Terry Fox run and our students showed incredible spirit as they ran, walked, and cheered each other on, all in honor of Terry’s legacy and his dream of finding a cure for cancer. With your support, we not only celebrated the values of perseverance, community, and hope but also contributed to a cause that touches so many lives. We are grateful for your continued commitment to our school and for modeling the importance of giving back. Together, we made a difference. As a school we raised almost $1500, with Forest Dragon House raising the most!

Our wonderful Office Assistant, Maryam Mirza, has accepted an Administrative Assistant position at Hillhurst School effective September 29, 2025. Request #2 | Families of Students with IPP’s

To families who have a student on an Individual Program Plan: on Monday September 22, your student will bring home a letter and consent form to send the upcoming IPP home electronically via email. Remind| School Council AGM

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Monday September 22, 2025 at 6:00 pm in the Learning Commons. All families are encouraged to attend as we review last year, gather community input, elect new members, and set goals for the year ahead. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the council’s work and to help shape our school’s direction.

Remind| Parking lot

A gentle reminder that our school parking lot is fully assigned to staff in the school and the associated offices. While a spot may be open during the day, that staff member may be returning at any time. Additionally, for the safety of people who may be walking through the parking lot and the vehicles inside, we need to keep traffic to a minimum. If you are dropping off, picking up or coming in to ask a question, we ask that you park on the street (watch out for the bus zone!) and walk into our building. Thank you very much for your support.

Inform| Library Update

We are thrilled to welcome students back into the library! September has been a busy and exciting month as we’ve reopened our space and begun supporting classroom learning.

This Month in the Library:

  • Library Orientation: Students from Grades 5–9 have visited the library to learn how to search for books, understand borrowing policies, and explore our collection.
  • Borrowing Rules & Expectations:
  • Students may borrow up to 2 books at a time.
  • The loan period is 2 weeks, with the option to renew if needed.
  • Books should be returned on time and in good condition to ensure access for others.
  • Lost or damaged books may result in a replacement fee.
  • We encourage students to take responsibility for their reading choices and care for library materials.
  • New Additions: We’ve added new titles across genres, including graphic novels, Indigenous literature, and student-requested books.

Looking Ahead:

  • Truth and Reconciliation Week: In preparation for Indigenous Truth and Reconciliation Day, we’re curating a special collection of books that explore Indigenous history, voices, and perspectives. These will be available for classroom use and student borrowing

We’re excited to build a strong reading culture this year and keep families informed about library events.

Request| Casino Volunteers

We are urgently in need of volunteers for our upcoming casino on October 14th and 15th, 2025. We require 14 more volunteers to run the two-day event, or risk forfeiting the approximately $60,000 in casino funds our school could receive.

There are both day shifts and night shifts available. The jobs are easy to perform, and all training is provided, as well as a free meal. The casino will take place at Ace Airport Casino (40 Aero Cres NE).

Please consider volunteering for the casino. To view the available shifts, click the following link below and follow the instructions in the Sign-Up Genius:
