Invite| Meet the Teacher
We’re excited to welcome families to our annual Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday, September 18, from 6:00–7:30 p.m. This is a great chance to get to know our school, learn about your child’s program, and meet the teachers who will be working with them this year. You’ll also hear about classroom routines and expectations.
A quick reminder: this evening is not the time for individual conversations about specific students. Those can be arranged separately with your child’s teacher.
Inform| Grade 9 West coast Trip Spring 2026 Updated Parent Meeting Date
As a school, we have made the decision to reschedule the mandatory parent meeting for this year’s West Coast trip to Thursday Oct 2nd from 6:00-7:00 pm. If you did not get a chance to sign up this past spring, there are still several spots available. This is an amazing once in a lifetime opportunity for your child to explore Canada’s beautiful marine environments on the west coast while learning how to sail on a tall ship! If you cannot make the meeting or have any questions, please contact Mr. John Komori at jakomori@cbe.ab.ca .
Request | Families of Students with IPP’s
To families who have a student on an Individual Program Plan: please give us your input into this document by completing this form by September 24th . Your perspective is important to us and we are grateful for your support. Please direct any questions to Ms. Johnson at lojohnson@cbe.ab.ca.
Invite| School Council
All Simon Fraser School parents and guardians are invited to attend our meeting on Monday, September 22nd at 6:00 pm. This Special Meeting will combine our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and regular monthly School Council Meeting.
We hope you will mark your calendars and join us!
Update| Terry Fox Run
We are excited to announce our upcoming Terry Fox Run that will take place on Friday September 19, 2025. This year, our goal as a school is to raise $1500 to support cancer research.
Students are invited to bring a donation of a toonie (or any amount they wish to contribute) to the office. Each donation will go into their Dragon House Jar—a great way to show house spirit while supporting cancer research and continuing Terry’s legacy of hope and determination.
Thank you for encouraging your child to take part in this important cause. Together, we can make a difference!
Inform| Transportation
Registration
- Please ensure that you have completed the bus registration for your child(ren) through your MyCBE account. This registration needs to be done each year. Drivers will be checking registration lists to confirm if students are eligible to ride their bus.

Occasional Rider Request
- We often get requests from families for their child(ren) to ride home on a different bus for one day. There is a new procedure we need to follow to give permission, so please note:
 - Only students registered for busing can travel on the bus
 - If the bus is at capacity, we will not be able to honor the request
 - Requests are for occasional changes, not a long-term arrangement
 - We require 24-hour notice to allow time to confirm permission, we will not be able to honor same day requests

As a school, we have received a number of phone calls, emails, and in-person visits regarding transportation this year. We recognize that revised pick-up times have created some stress for families and students, and we want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate new legislation and revised bell times.
As a school, our goal is to reduce unnecessary stress and ensure that every child feels safe and supported when arriving each morning. To help with this, we will continue to communicate which buses are running late to school staff and will ask students to head directly to class upon arrival rather than stopping at the office. Teachers are aware of these circumstances, and students will be welcomed into class without concern about their late arrival.
We are working closely with our transportation partners to monitor the situation, and we will keep families updated as we receive new information. Unfortunately, as a school, we have no control of times/routes as those decisions are made at the system level due to having the larger CBE context in mind.
It is important that families keep up to date with applicable service providers (transportation companies) bus status apps. Contact them with questions if you are unable to add a route, unable to track the bus, etc. The contact numbers for each provider can be found below.
Southland:
- You can use the MyBusStop web application GPS tracking service to see real-time information and route delays. Real-time information may not always be available, but the app will still have posted delays.
 - Register and create an account using your school code. Codes change each school year and will be provided in MyCBE.

Request| Casino Volunteers
We are urgently in need of volunteers for our upcoming casino on October 14th and 15th, 2025. We require 14 more volunteers to run the two-day event, or risk forfeiting the approximately $60,000 in casino funds our school could receive.
There are both day shifts and night shifts available. The jobs are easy to perform, and all training is provided, as well as a free meal. The casino will take place at Ace Airport Casino (40 Aero Cres NE).
Please consider volunteering for the casino. To view the available shifts, click the following link below and follow the instructions in the Sign-Up Genius:

Request| Keeping our School Grounds Safe & Clean
We are noticing issues arising from garbage and food waste being left behind by students on our school field. The wind can carry garbage out into the larger community, and the food waste attracts birds and animals. We encourage all students at Simon Fraser to be good stewards for the environment and respectful members of the larger community.
Please have a conversation with your child(ren) about their role in keeping our school grounds safe and clean for everyone.
