As we enter the month of June, our school community recognizes several important occasions, including National Indigenous History Month, Italian Heritage Month, Filipino Heritage Month, and Pride Season. As always, the heart of our approach is our commitment to fostering respectful dialogue, empathy, and human connection within our school community. We believe in framing school culture around shared values such as belonging, kindness, respect, and safety to help ensure that all students and families feel supported and connected.
June always brings a great deal of excitement to Simon Fraser School as we celebrate a successful year of learning and growth. This June will be especially meaningful, as it also brings significant transitions for both students and staff. With the opening of Evanston Heights School, many of our students will be moving next year, and we will also be saying goodbye to several valued staff members due to decreased enrolment.
Transitions and change can bring a wide range of emotions, and our priority is to ensure that all students and staff feel supported, connected, and cared for during this time. As we work together to make this a June to remember, it is equally important that it is a safe one. We ask all members of our school community to help maintain a caring, respectful, and welcoming environment for everyone.
To support student safety and well-being, water guns, water balloons, water bottle fights, and similar activities are not permitted at school. While we understand students may see these activities as fun, they can quickly become unsafe, disruptive, or uncomfortable for others.
As a reminder, attendance is a continued expectation as learning remains our central focus.
We appreciate your continued partnership and support as we finish the school year together in a positive way!
Remind| Track Meet
This is a reminder that our school track meet takes place on Wednesday, with over 100 student athletes participating throughout the day. We are excited to see our students represent the school through teamwork, effort, and sportsmanship.
Please note that only participating athletes are allowed to attend the track meet. All other students are expected to attend school as usual. To support supervision and safety expectations, student spectators will not be permitted at the event.
Athletes are encouraged to come prepared for all weather conditions, including sun, wind, or rain. Students should bring:
- Appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear
- A refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day
- Healthy snacks and/or a lunch to help maintain energy levels during competition
Go Flames!
Remind| Spring Concert & Simon Fraser Music Parent Association Bottle Drive
On Thursday, June 4 at 6pm, families are invited to join us for the Simon Fraser School Spring Band Concert. Our performance will take place in the gym. The program will feature our Grade 7, Grade 8, and Grade 9 Concert Bands as well as the Simon Fraser Jazz Band. Come spend a musical evening celebrating the achievements of our school musicians.
Simon Fraser MPA asks for your support of a bottle drive, taking place during the concert on June 4. Cross one more thing off your to do list by bringing your empty bottles to the band concert and placing them in the Bottle Depot Trailer that will be parked at the school between 4pm and 7:30pm. Proceeds support the band program and build a strong music community at Simon Fraser. Your support is greatly appreciated.
