As we move toward the end of the school year, we are very excited to continue working alongside our students during this busy and rewarding time. There are still many valuable learning opportunities, activities, celebrations, and experiences ahead, and we want every student to finish the year strong.

We kindly ask that families take some time to speak with their children about the importance of:

  • Following the Student Code of Conduct
  • Staying focused and engaged in learning
  • Demonstrating respect for peers, staff, and our school environment
  • Making positive choices both in and out of the classroom

This time of year can be exciting and energetic for students, and maintaining strong routines and expectations helps ensure a safe, positive, and productive environment for everyone.

Celebrate| Grade 9 Students

We wanted to provide a special shout out to our Grade 9 students following yesterday’s Provincial Achievement Test (PAT).

Our students approached the writing assessment with thoughtfulness, care, and a high level of seriousness. We recognize that writing for an extended period of time can be challenging, and it was impressive to see the focus, perseverance, and commitment demonstrated throughout the day.

We are incredibly proud of the entire Grade 9 cohort. Their efforts reflected a strong sense of responsibility and readiness as they prepare for the transition to high school.

Inform| 2026-2027 Transportation Registration
Transportation registration for the 2026-27 school year began on May 13. Registrations must be received by June 14, 2026, to ensure students are added to routes for the first day of classes next year. Late registration will continue to be received but will result in a delay in access to the bus route.

Transportation is an annual service that can be paid monthly. Families cannot register for only certain months ahead of time. Once registered, service continues until a cancellation is submitted, even if the student doesn't ride the bus every day.

Inform| Grade 9 Farewell

It is almost the end of the school year and we wanted to share details for our upcoming farewell  events. These field trips will be our way to celebrate our grade nine students and their time at Simon Fraser.

On Wednesday  June 24th, grade nine students will be heading to Calaway Park to hang out with friends, go on some rides, enjoy the weather, and reinforce physics learning from the year! Please note that students will need some money to purchase their own food/ drinks or pack a lunch.

Then on the morning of Thursday June 25th, grade nines will attend the AL Azhar Shriners Centre where they will have a BBQ (Burger, Halal Burger or Veggie Burger and a bag of chips and a can of pop or bottle of water), play some outdoor games and enjoy some music from the DJ we booked.

For both celebration events, we will be back at school to catch the buses at the end of the day. The fees for these field trips are on MyCBE. If you have any questions or concerns or would like to volunteer, please email Chantelle Marjoram at cemarjoram@cbe.ab.ca

Inform| OurSchool Student Survey

Over the next week, students will be participating in an online school perception survey called the OurSCHOOL Student Survey. This anonymous survey is completely voluntary for all CBE students.  Please find the details of the survey implementation below.

Inform| Simon Fraser Music Parent Association Bottle Drive

The Simon Fraser MPA asks for your support of a bottle drive, taking place during the concert on June 4. Cross one more thing off your to do list by bringing you empty bottles to the band concert and placing them in the Bottle Depot Trailer that will be parked at the school between 4pm and 7:30pm. Proceeds support the band program and build a strong music community at Simon Fraser. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Invite| School Council Meeting

You are warmly invited to attend our final in-person School Council meeting of the school year. As we wrap up another successful year, we look forward to celebrating accomplishments, reflecting on the year, and discussing plans and ideas for the future.

School Council plays an important role in supporting our school community, and we value the voices, perspectives, and partnership of our families. Whether you have attended meetings throughout the year or are joining for the first time, we would love to see you there.

Invite | Spring Concert

On Thursday, June 4 at 6pm you are invited to join us for the Simon Fraser School Spring Band Concert. Our performance will take place in the gym. The program will feature our Grade 7, Grade 8, and Grade 9 Concert Bands as well as the Simon Fraser Jazz Band. Come spend a musical evening celebrating the achievements of our school musicians.

Remind| Provincial Achievement Tests (PAT)

PAT’s are part of a balanced, broad-based program of student assessment for Grades 6 and 9 students. The results provide some of the information that guides our educators as they set targets for student achievement and track the results of school improvement initiatives. Visit the CBE website for more information on our students’ provincial testing

Teachers will remain focused on delivering the programs of study for all courses and will continue to assess student achievement based on the grade level outcomes as determined by the Government of Alberta.

Here are a couple of reminders for grade 6 and 9 students leading into the PAT this week:

  • Students are recommended to have a full bottle of water and a snack with them during the writing time.
  • Students must keep their digital devices turned off in their lockers (or better yet left at home)
  • Students are encouraged to take a novel to the writing room to read if they finish before the allotted time.
  • Students using the allotted extra time will remain in the room or will move to another one to continue their exam.
  • Students in need of a washroom break will be escorted to the washroom.
