Dear Simon Fraser Families,
Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year at Simon Fraser School!
We are so excited to welcome everyone back for another year of learning, growth, and community. The first days of school are always filled with excitement, new beginnings, and opportunities to connect.
This year, we look forward to:
- Building on our strong school community.
 - Encouraging curiosity, creativity, and collaboration.
 - Supporting every student to achieve their personal best.

Thank you for your continued partnership. Together, we will make this year one full of success, joy, and memorable experiences.
Please see important information below to assist the transition back to school. Should you have questions, please contact the main office.

Inform| This Week
Homeroom teachers will contact families via email tomorrow (August 28, 2026, at 2:30 pm) to welcome students to their class. Student schedules will be available on Friday August 29, 2025, on MyCBE
Please note, we are not accepting student class/homeroom change requests. Students have been placed into classes through a thoughtful process by last year's teaching team. A survey for parent input on classroom requests was sent out in May, and the submitted parent/guardian requests were honored wherever possible.
School begins for students on Tuesday September 2, 2025, at 8:00 am. Grade 5, 6, and new students to Simon Fraser School should enter through the main door. Grade 7, 8 and 9 students will enter through the second-floor east entrance. All Grade 5’s and new students to Simon Fraser School must proceed directly into the gym, all others may go directly to their homeroom classes.
For more information pertaining to Back to School, please visit our website.
Inform| Times & Bell Schedule
Students may enter the school beginning at 7:45 am Monday to Friday.
The Simon Fraser Bell Schedule can be found on our website here.
Inform| Busing Update
Parents/guardians need to register for busing every year. Please check your child’s busing information in your MyCBE account to ensure they have a stop assigned/route. Please also talk to your children if they have siblings in school to meet at their bus at the end of the day.
For families taking transportation, you are encouraged to check each morning to make sure your child’s bus is on time and has no delays. If you do not remember your child’s bus number, you can look on your MyCBE account for that information.
Remind| Traffic Safety
Before school drop off and after school pick up is a busy time on the roads around our school. Families are reminded not to park in front of the school or in the school parking lot to ensure all students are safe. Please also be a good community member and do not park in front of driveways and please follow the rules of the road!
Please take time this weekend to speak to your kids about safe travel practices like using crosswalks, looking all ways before crossing the street and not jaywalking across the roadways as a shortcut.
Remind| Absences and Lates
There is a strong correlation between attendance and effective education. The CBE Administrative Regulation 6020 - Attendance of Students applies to all students, and outlines the responsibilities for students, parents/guardians and school staff. Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring compliance with this legal requirement and schools' responsibility for ensuring that parents are informed promptly when a student's attendance is not satisfactory.
Reminder to call the absence line when your child is late or absent. Accurate attendance keeps children safe and effective communication between the school and families! Emails to teachers or administration do not always reach the office in time to do accurate attendance and may result in you receiving a phone call or email advising that your child is absent. Please call all absent or lates into the attendance line at 403-777-7290 and press 1 to leave a message on our attendance line. We ask that you clearly state the child's name, spelling the last name, grade, and a reason for the absence.
Request| Volunteers
We welcome volunteers on field trips and with certain tasks at school. Certain activities or field trips would not be possible without the active participation of volunteers. As a CBE volunteer, you are placed in a position of trust with students, staff or property. All adult volunteers require a valid security clearance - no exception.
Please visit the CBE website for more information regarding the Volunteer Security/Registration process.
Request| Supplies
Please be aware that school supplies are not provided for students in grades 7 through 9. Please refer to the Simon Fraser recommended supply list.
Additional supplies may be needed for specific classes. Teachers will provide these lists to students at the beginning of the course.
If students run out or lose some of their supplies, they will need to replace them. From time to time, students will be required to purchase additional supplies for projects assigned throughout the year.
Remind| Don’t Miss Out on School Messages - Sign up SMS
We use SchoolMessenger to send email, text (SMS) and voice messages from our school and from the CBE. Please visit Subscribe to School Messages to ensure you can receive all communication flowing from Simon Fraser School and from the Calgary Board of Education.
Remind| Personal Mobile Devices
In accordance with Alberta Education Ministerial Order, possession and use of personal mobile devices is not permitted during instructional time. Students should keep devices at home or in their lockers on silent if you feel they need the device. Please note that every classroom has a phone should a student need one.
