Parents and families are reminded that Friday, April 24, 2026 (tomorrow) is a Non-Instructional Day. Staff will be participating in offsite professional learning, and as a result, the school will be closed for much of the day.
There will be no classes for students on this day, and we look forward to welcoming students back on Monday.

How Can Understanding Executive Functions Support Me as a Parent?
This workshop will provide an overview of executive functioning and how recognizing your child’s strengths and challenges can lead to more effective support at home. Participants will gain a practical framework for addressing common challenges, with an opportunity to focus on a specific issue relevant to their family. Participants will leave with actionable strategies that can be implemented immediately.
- Date and Time: May 7, 2026, from 6:00–7:30 p.m.
- Where: Simon Fraser School Learning Commons (in person)
- Register: Space is limited. Please register in advance to secure your spot.
Inform| Summer Math15 through CBe-Learn
If your child has been recommended to take Math 15 by their grade 9 math teacher, it is possible to take the course online through CBe-Learn during the summer. The course is best suited for students who are independent and motivated with self-discipline and time management skills. It will require a stable internet connection and 2-3 hours of sustained work time, daily, by the student. Strong reading comprehension and writing skills, and parental/guardian support are recommended.
If you would like your child to be registered for this course, contact Ms. Johnson by April 30. A few things to note:
- Students can only be registered by LL Johnson (registration will not be open to parents/guardians).
- Ms. Johnson will register Simon Fraser students on May 4. Parents/guardians will receive an email of confirmation of registration the week of June 2 – 6.
Please direct questions to Ms. Johnson at lojohnson@cbe.ab.ca and she will try her best to answer them or find the answers for you.
Remind| Scooters, Skateboards, and Bicycles.
As a reminder to families, scooters, skateboards, and bicycles are not permitted to be ridden on school property during the school day, including before school, at breaks, and after dismissal. This expectation helps ensure the safety of all students and staff, as school grounds can become very busy.
Students who bring scooters or skateboards to school are expected to lock them securely in their lockers upon arrival and leave them there until the end of the day. Please note that the office is only able to secure a small number of items, and this option should be used only when necessary.
When students are riding bikes, scooters, or skateboards, wearing a helmet is essential. Helmets significantly reduce the risk of serious injury and help reinforce lifelong safety habits.
Thank you for your support in helping keep our school community safe.
Remind| Plans for Next Year
As we begin planning for the upcoming school year, we are requesting your assistance to ensure our enrolment information is accurate.
If you are a Brentwood family, or a current Evanston family with a student entering Grade 9 next year, and you are moving or planning not to attend our school next year, please notify the school as soon as possible.
This information is essential for staffing, programming, and class organization for the upcoming year. If you anticipate a change, even if details are not yet final, we would appreciate hearing from you.
Please contact the school office at your earliest convenience with any questions or updates.
Request| Transition Planning
As we begin planning for the 2026–27 school year, we want to acknowledge the importance of children having varied learning experiences with a range of peers and teaching styles. In most cases, making a specific placement request is not necessary and not usually in the best interest of the student, as it may limit these valuable growth opportunities.
That said, we understand there may be circumstances where families feel it is important to share information that could support their child’s success next year. While we do our best to consider parent/guardian input, we cannot guarantee that all requests are honoured.
When creating class lists, our goal is to create balanced learning environments that support the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students. In doing so, we consider several factors, including learning needs, peer dynamics, and teacher input.
If you wish to make a classroom placement request, please keep the following in mind:
- Requests should focus on your own child’s individual learning needs (academic, social-emotional, etc.).
- Requests involving peers will only be considered if there is a demonstrated positive and productive working relationship between the students.
- Please remember that other families may have different requests, and students you mention may have different needs or placements being considered.
- All requests must be submitted using the form provided in the link. Verbal requests or emails sent to teachers, or the school office will not be considered.
- The deadline to complete the request form is Friday, May 1, 2026, by 6:00 PM. Requests submitted after this deadline will not be considered.
As we review your input, we will consider it through the lens of what is best for your child and the learning environment.
